When there is an uncontrolled division of cells to form a tumor the condition is known as Cancer. Lung Cancer is when cells in and around the lungs multiply uncontrolled. This condition is also known as Lung Carcinoma. The condition if left untreated is bound to cause greater complications; cancer might also spread to other areas of the body (Metastasis). The causes can be genetic or due to environmental factors. A major chunk of the Lung Cancer patients is mainly habitual tobacco smokers.
Types of Lung Cancer
Lung Cancer can be classified mainly into two types Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) and Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma (NSCLC).
Small Cell Carcinoma is also known as Oat Cell Carcinoma and is a highly malignant cancer which spreads fast around the regions of the lungs. About 85% of all the Lung Cancers detected are Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinomas. They are highly resistant towards Lung Cancer.
Signs and Symptoms of Lung Cancer
The symptoms of Lung Cancer mainly include chest pain which worsens with deep breathing or coughing, apersistent cough which gets worse day by day. Coughing up blood or reddish sputum is a sign that you should not ignore and seek medical help immediately. Weight Loss and loss of appetite are alsoalarming signs.Things might get worse if the Cancer spreads to areas near the bones and liver and also if it invades the nervous system. This might cause bone pain, seizures, and jaundice.
Methods of Early Diagnosis
Early detection of Cancer is always helpful, and it becomes easy to eliminate the disease from the system. In case you are showing the signs mentioned above and symptoms tests like Sputum cytology, a Chest X-ray and a Computed tomography (CT) scan should be done and you should consult a medical practitioner and get the right diagnosis done.
