Hair Transplant

The balding of the scalp, medically referred to as alopecia, is a condition that isn’t age specific and can affect people at any point in their lives. Early indications of alopecia include thedry and flaky scalp, which leads to irritation due to the constant urge to itch. This, in turn, may lead to minor wounds on the scalp that makes the situation worse.

The occurrence of this condition is more common among men and can be centered on the crown or the front portion that lies above the forehead. One may wonder about the reason behind the condition affecting men more often the women. The answer to this puzzle lies in the presence of dihydrotestosterone in men, which causes the thinning of hair by decreasing the size of the hair follicles. Remember to differentiate hair fall from hair loss, with the latter being a permanent condition that can only be reversed through processes such as a hair transplant surgery.
Hair loss can be categorised into seven categories. Out of these involutional alopecia results in loss of hair due to old age. However, other conditions such as androgenic alopecia are genetic in nature and can affect individuals in their teens as well. The lack of protein and iron intake also translates into aloss of hair but can be reversed by switching to a healthier diet.

The loss of hair can have an adverse effect on the confidence of a person, especially those who face the disheartening symptoms of this condition at a young age. Many individuals choose to go in for a hair transplant surgery. A hair transplant surgery is of two types known as follicular unit extraction and follicular unit strip surgery. In both the cases, the surgeon uses hair that is already present on your head, to cover the patches. On the one hand, FUE involves the extraction of individual follicles, while on the other, FUS is carried out by obtaining hair strips from the back of the head that are further divided into smaller grafts.

The procedure is made comfortable by numbing the area that is to be operated on, before the procedure so as to reduce the uneasiness caused during the surgery. Depending on the hair density that is to be achieved, the surgery may last for 3 to 6 hours. For those worried about the intensity and authenticity of the procedure, it would be beneficial to note that hair transplant surgery has been in the medical purview since the mid-1900s, and the techniques of carrying out this miraculous process have only improved.
