Breast augmentation and augmentation mammoplasty plastic surgeryis user for breast-implant and the fat-graft mammoplasty procedures used to enlarge, change the shape, and alter the texture of the breasts of a woman.Augmentation mammoplasty is applied to effect a post-mastectomy breast reconstruction as a primary reconstruction method. In addition to that, it is also done to remove cancerous cells of the breasts, correct congenital defects of the breast and the chest wall.
As an elective, cosmetic surgery, it is done to enhance the aesthetics of healthy breasts in terms of size, shape and, texture. The surgical implantation procedure affects the global augmentation of the breast hemisphere using breast implants. These breast implants can either be implants filled with salinesolution or implants filled with siliconegel. Moreover, the transplanted autologous skin flaps harvested from the woman’s body can also be applied in addition to the implants.
Surgical Breast implants
For reconstruction and the augmentation of a woman’s breast to enhance the aesthetics, there are two types of breast implants:
- Saline Implants: The Saline breast implants are filled with sterile saline solution. The technical goal of this implant is to reconstruct, reshape and resize the breasts with a physically less invasive surgical technique for emplacing an empty breast implant device through a smaller surgical incision.
- Silicone Gel Implants: Silicone Gel implants, filled with silicone gel, were first introduced in 1961 as a modern prosthetic breast implant. Silicone gel, filled in breast implant models, make it a very effective way to enlarge the breasts.
Comparing the results of the two, it can be seen that the salinesolution filled implant yields better results of increased breastsize, smoother hemisphere, contour, and a realistic texture. However, cosmetic problems, such as rippling and wrinkling of the skin, theformation of lumps and the implant being noticeable to the eye, may also arise.
