Roux E-NY Gastric By Pass
Gastric bypass surgery, not only makes the stomach smaller, but also causes food to bypass part of the small intestine. After the surgery, one feels full much more quickly than usual. It reduces the amount of food intake at one time, which further leads to weight-loss.
One common type of gastric bypass surgery is Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. During normal digestion, food goes through the stomach to the small intestine, where most of the nutrients and calories are absorbed, then it passes to thelarge intestine (colon), after which final waste is excreted, eventually. On the other hand, in a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, a small part of thestomachis taken in use to create a new stomach pouch, roughly to the size of an egg. This is connected directly to the midsectionof the small intestine, bypassing the remaining part of the stomach and the upper portion of the small intestine.
The procedure is progressed by making several small incisions, using small instruments and a camera to guide the surgery.
The surgery is a weight-loss surgery and obviously, is suitable for people who are severely overweight or those who have not been able to lose weight with diet, exercise, and doing other changes in their lifestyle.
It is considered to be done when one’s BMI (Body mass index) is 40 or higher. Surgery can also be done with BMI being 35 or higher, but this will only result in a life-threatening or disabling problem that is related to weight of your body like—Type-2 Diabetes, which is difficult to cure or even curb the use of expensive medicines or taking treatment, that will definitely cost someone fortune.
Risks common to this surgery include stomach pouch problems, vomiting, hernia, kidney stones, gall bladder stones, etc.
This weight-loss surgery doesn’t remove fatty tissue and is not a cosmetic surgery and hence, a person can only get it done by going through proper examination by his doctor
